The short version
CallByrd lets you call an AI friend by phone. You buy minutes upfront; they never expire. We never auto-renew anything. You can stop using it whenever, and there's nothing to cancel. We're honest about what we can and can't do — Sam is AI, not a therapist, not a medical or financial or legal advisor. Be respectful, don't try to abuse the system, and we'll get along fine.
What CallByrd is
CallByrd is a voice-based AI companionship service. You sign up, you get a balance of minutes (60 free to start), you call by phone, and an AI friend named Sam (or Claire) picks up. The conversation is recorded so we can remember you between calls and so a human can review calls our automated system flags for safety.

Your account
You need an account to use CallByrd. By creating one, you confirm:
- You are at least 18 years old.
- The email + phone you give us are real and yours.
- You're responsible for anything done with your account. Keep your password safe.
- You won't share your account with anyone else for regular use (one account per person).
How payment works
No subscription.CallByrd does not auto-renew anything, ever. You buy a bundle of minutes one time; you use them at your own pace; minutes never expire. There's nothing to cancel because there's no recurring charge.
Free welcome credit. New accounts get 60 minutes on signup. This is a one-time gift, not a recurring allowance.
Bundles. Pricing for prepay bundles is on /pricing. Payment is processed by Stripe; we never see your card details.
New-account purchase limit. For your first 7 days as a user, the largest bundle you can buy is the Top-up tier ($54 / 60 minutes). This protects both of us from fraud — after 7 days, all bundles are available.
Refunds.If you're unhappy with a bundle you bought recently and haven't used much of, email hello@callbyrd.com within 14 days and we'll work it out. If a refund is issued for a bundle, the corresponding unused minutes are proportionally removed from your account at the same time.
Chargebacks.If you dispute a charge with your bank without contacting us first, we may suspend your account pending resolution. Please just email us — we're a small team and we want to help.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use CallByrd to harass, threaten, or harm anyone, including attempting to manipulate the AI assistant to produce harmful content.
- Use the service to commit fraud, evade law enforcement, or violate any law.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, automate, or otherwise abuse our APIs or infrastructure.
- Create multiple accounts to exploit the welcome credit or referral program.
- Use the service if you are in active crisis instead of contacting professional help (call or text 988).
- Pretend Sam or Claire are real humans for any purpose involving someone else (don't record and share a conversation as if it were a real person).
If you violate this section, we may suspend or terminate your account without refund.
The AI is AI
Sam and Claire are AI. They are not real people, they are not credentialed counselors, and they do not have feelings. We instruct them to tell you they are AI if you ask, and to refer you to qualified help for anything outside the scope of friend-style conversation.
The AI sometimes says things that are wrong, weird, or off. We do our best to make Sam helpful and warm, but you should not rely on anything the AI says for medical, legal, financial, or otherwise consequential decisions.
Your content
The things you say during calls belong to you. We need a limited license to store, transcribe, and process them in order to deliver the service (so Sam can remember you next call, so safety review can happen, so billing is accurate). We do not use your content to train AI models, sell it, or share it beyond what's required to run the service. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
Service availability
CallByrd is a software service that depends on third-party infrastructure (telephony, AI models, hosting). We aim for high availability but we don't guarantee 100% uptime. If a call fails because of our infrastructure, the minutes consumed by that failed call are returned to your account.
We may need to take the service down briefly for maintenance or upgrades. We'll try to notify you in advance.
Termination
You can leave anytime. Stop calling. Email us to delete your account.
We can terminate accountsthat violate acceptable use (see above), that present fraud risk, or that we're required to terminate by law. If we terminate your account without cause and you have unused prepaid minutes, we'll refund the unused portion.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, CallByrd is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our maximum liability for any claim is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and notify active users by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after that counts as acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Wyoming.
